On October 12, 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case in opposition to two assistant commissioners, three superintendents of central tax and one other officer.
In its report, the CBI said that the Directorate of General Vigilance of Hyderabad Zonal Unit of Customs division had carried out an inside investigation and located the alleged involvement of the officers in seizure of gold and its deposit within the warehouse.
It was throughout their tenure on the Airport that the gold went lacking.
The six officers who have been in control of the mishandled baggage godown have been entrusted with the gold seizure from the passengers, the CBI stated.
“They abused their official place and didn’t perform stock of the gold and didn’t hand over the yellow metallic acquired from the seizing officers to the MHB officers of the following shift,” the CBI stated in its FIR.
All the six have been booked beneath part 409 (legal breach of belief) and 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and 13(1)(c) (fraudulent misappropriation) and 13(2) (legal misconduct) of the Prevention of Corruption Act-1988.
